Maybe you stopped in the Dollar Tree because you needed a specific item that costs more than $1.25 everywhere else. You were planning on running in and out, having spent less than an Abraham Lincoln (the bill, not the coin haha), but the vibrant colors of the beauty aisle catches your eye. Now, you’re spending 30 minutes trying to decide which of the 12 makeup products you just put in your cart are actually worth buying. That’s what happens to me, at least, and this time it was the catchy titles of the Ioni Lip Plumper Gloss (such as Book of Dreams) that conned me out of my money.
To be honest, the packaging was more fun than the product itself, but the quality isn’t bad and it was exciting to experience the ‘hot’ effect of the pepper. For an in-depth review and swatch photos, please see below!
Did it make my lips plumper?
Mmm, not really. It did make my lips feel plumper, though—the spicy pepper extract caused my mouth to feel a bit like when you get that numbing cream at the dentist. I do have naturally fuller lips, though, so maybe there would’ve been a difference if my lips were thinner.
Is the color pretty?
I bought Sangria, a brick-looking one, and Sparkle Pink. They were pretty, I suppose, but they kind of looked the same. Definitely not enough of a difference to spend money on both! The weird thing is that when I swatched them on my arm (see below) they did look different, but not when I actually applied them (see above). However, both were very bold for a lip gloss…much more vibrant than a typical brand you’d find at Dollar Tree!
Do they go on smoothly?
Yes! They were easy to apply! I have Lancome lip products that could learn a thing or two from Ioni’s packaging.
Will I be keeping them?
After I try out a Dollar Tree beauty product, there are three things I can do: 1.) Keep it and use it, 2.) Pass it down to my younger sister, or 3.) Leave it at my parents’ place as an emergency fixin’. This time, I’ll be leaving it at my parents’ as emergency products. I was very happy with the quality—especially for only coasting $1.25 each—but I don’t see myself ever reaching for these during my morning routine. I’d rather save the space in my makeup drawer and get something from Uoma Beauty.
